GENDER DIFFERENCES IN SPEAKING ENGLISH FAMILY PHOTO AT ISLAMIC STUDIES STUDENTS UNIVERSITAS AL WASHLIYAH MEDAN

Abstract

This study was conducted to find out Gender Differences in Speaking English Family Photo Islamic Studies Students in the first semester year 2021/2022. This study used four categories to asses speaking namely; vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation, and fluency. The subjects of this study were ten male students and ten female students. When choosing the subjects researcher used purposive sampling. For collecting the data to find the result of gender differences in speaking English researchers applied observation and speaking performance. Then, it was found that female students obtained 7,56% in vocabulary, 8,40% in grammar, 8,32% in pronunciation, and 8,00% in fluency. It showed that female students are better in four categories in speaking. Male students got summary scores in percentages about 6,96% in vocabulary, 6,44% in grammar, 7,52% in pronunciation, and 7,48% in fluency. Of the four categories in speaking, male students are not bad in pronunciation. Therefore, it can be found that male and female students have different characteristics in expressing their strategies and abilities depending on the topic context itself.
