The novel Tarian Bumi by Oka Rusmini is a literary work in the form of a novel. The stories contained in it highlight human life with regional culture, namely Balinese culture. One of these cultural contents is what differentiates the social classes or castes that apply to Balinese society. The novel Tarian Bumi describes the life of the character Luh Sekar who works as a dancer, Oleg, a woman from the Sudra caste. The character Luh Sekar dreams of becoming a Brahmin because if a woman lives in a higher caste environment, he will have all her needs met. Finally, Luh Sekar used various methods to marry a Brahmin caste man. Telaga Ayu Pidada, Luh Sekar's daughter, has desires that are the opposite of her mother's wishes. Telaga, who is now a true nobleman, married a man from the Sudra caste. Even though Balinese culture basically prohibits marriage between the Brahmin caste and the Sudra caste, this is not in line with his thinking. That the caste system is still applied in marriage law in this modern era. The Telaga figure finally challenges Balinese cultural hegemony which prohibits her from marrying into the Sudra caste. Indigenous hegemony is used to analyze the Earth Dance novel. The term hegemony is often used by sociologists to explain the phenomenon of a ruler's efforts to maintain power. The term "sovereign" has a broad meaning that is not limited only to the ruler of the State (Government). Hegemony can be defined as the domination of one group over another group, with or without threats of violence, so that the ideas dictated by the dominant group to the dominated group are accepted as normal or unnatural. The novel Tarian Bumi describes the condition of the Sudra caste as an object of submission to power. The clamor and acceptance of the Sudra caste is clearly visible in the text.References
