Abstract

Learning Indonesian for Foreign Speakers (BIPA) is one of the government's steps to improve the function of Indonesian as an international language. In BIPA learning, it is necessary to have BIPA teaching materials to guide BIPA students so that they can make it easier to learn Indonesian well and fluently according to their level or phase. Therefore, when creating or developing BIPA teaching materials, it is necessary to pay attention to detail so that the teaching materials are of good quality and easy to understand by BIPA students. The aim of this research is to provide knowledge about Indonesian language and culture through the development of BIPA teaching materials. One of the developments in teaching materials was developed about "Keris". Because the keris is one of the riches of the Indonesian nation recognized by UNESCO. The method used is a qualitative approach which involves a series of structured steps to develop Indonesian language teaching materials for Foreign Speakers (BIPA), using the "Keris" media which is a national cultural heritage for students at Yale University, United States. The use of keris as a learning tool for Indonesian Language for Foreign Speakers (BIPA) can be an effective method in deepening students' understanding of Indonesian culture.
