Abstract

Statistics is a compulsory subject for the Informatics Engineering Study Program. This course is used as a basis for studying other subjects such as data mining and databases. Some students cannot solve statistical problems properly. They made mistakes in solving statistical problems. For this reason, research is needed that aims to analyze student errors in solving statistical problems. This research is a qualitative descriptive type which aims to describe student errors in solving statistical problems. The research sample was 30 students of Informatics Engineering Study Program who took the Statistics course. The method of collecting data in this study is the method of tests and interviews. The test was conducted to analyze student errors from the answers given. The test consists of 5 word questions related to statistical problems. The interview method serves to determine the achievement of student error indicators according to Newman's theory. Student errors according to Newman's theory with a high category of 60% are in process skill errors. For the moderate category, 43% are in coding errors. The low category is 40% for transformation errors and 33% for errors in understanding the problem. As for the very low category of 16% for reading error questions
