AN ANALYSIS OF STUDENTS’ DIFFICULTIES IN READING COMPREHENSION AT THE ELEVENTH GRADE OF BINTANG LANGKAT SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL

Abstract

The research aims to show the proof of Nuttal’s theory where he stated that thereare five aspects that should be mastered by students in reading comprehension,namely: the students should be able determining the main idea of a text, findingspecific information, making inference, identifying reference, and understandingword’s meaning (vocabulary). The subject of this research was the Eleventh GradeStudents at Bintang Langkat Senior High School. This research was qualitativedescriptive research. The researcher used test, interviews, and documentation forcollecting the data. The result of the test was analyzed by Sudijono’s formula. Theresult showed that the five aspects was not relate to the students. There were fourthaspect related to the students were determining the main idea with percentage of25,6%, finding specific information with percentage of 15, 6%, making an inferencewith percentage of 31,8%, and identifying reference with percentage of 26,7%.
