Abstract

The purpose of this research is to analysis students' difficulties in translation,students' process in translating, and the reasons why students experience difficultiesin translating translate English descriptive text into Indonesian which has beenanalysis from students in Class VII SMP Negeri 1 Salapian. This research usesqualitative descriptive methods to describe in detail student difficulties and thestudent process in translating descriptive text into English Indonesian. In this study,researchers took a sample of ten students of class VII SMP Negeri 1 Salapian. Tofind out the results of the analysis that has been carried out and describe themstudents' difficulties, researchers read the text first, analyze the text, write andsumming up students' translation scores.Based on student translation tests, this research shows students' difficulties intranslating descriptive text. Researchers summarize them into three types: 1)Accuracy, 2) Grammatically, and 3) Equivalence. There are many aspects ofdifficulty associated with this type. The difficulties they experience are grammar,unfamiliar vocabulary, and word choice. Apart from that, there are several factorsthat make students difficult in translation tests, as follows: student knowledge,student willingness to learn, and teaching techniques. The results of the researchwere 80% accuracy from 10 students who did not understand accuracy. The resultsof research on understanding grammar were 70% of 10 students who did notunderstand grammar. Equivalence Percentage 80% of 10 students who havedifficulty translating into the target language, difficulty composing words, weakvocabulary, and insufficient understanding of the translation.
