THE EFFECT OF LISTEN-READ-DISCUSS (LRD) STRATEGY ON STUDENTS’ WRITING ACHIEVEMENT IN DESCRIPTIVE TEXT OF THE TENTH GRADE STUDENTS AT SMK SWASTA YPIS MAJU BINJAI

Abstract

The objective of this study is to find out the significant effect of Listen Read Discuss(LRD) Strategy on Students’ Writing Achievement in Descriptive Text of The Tenth Grade Students at SMK Swasta YPIS Maju Binjai. This study is quasi-experimental research. This study used a system of control class and experimental class, which acts as a control class benchmark basic ability students on writingdescriptive text without application of the strategy, while the experimental classwas given Listen Read Discuss strategy. The data collected from this study wereanalyzed using t-test formula. The result of this study that was a positive effect ofthe result students’ writing descriptive text after using Listen Read Strategy. It canbe seen from the data analysis, it was found that value of t-observed (to) was higherthan t-table (tt). The result from calculating the data was t-observation (to = 4.83)and t-table (tt = 1.68) it means, to is higher than tt in significant level 5%, so the nullhypothesis ((Ho) is rejected, and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. In orderwords, using Listen Read Discuss strategy had effect on students writing descriptivetext of the tenth grade students at SMK Swasta YPIS Maju Binjai.
