THE EFFECT OF WATCHING CARTOON FILM ON STUDENTS VERB MASTERY EIGHT GRADE STUDENTS OF SMP MUHAMMADIYAH BINJAI IN ACADEMIC YEAR 2023/2024

Abstract

The main objective of this study to find out the effectiveness of teachingEnglish verbs by using cartoon films. The method of the research is an experimentalstudy. The data were obtained by giving test to the experiment class and controlclass after giving different learning to both classes.The teacher gave three timesteaching to both classes. The number of the subjects is 26 students in each class.They are VIII-1 is as experimental class (the students who are taught using cartoonfilms), VIII-2 is as control class (the students who are not taught using cartoonfilms). The instruments used to collect the data were documentation and test. Testwas used to know students’ competence before and after the experiment run.Another analysis data is from the ending of control class and experiment class. It isused to prove the truth of hypothesis that has planed. The result of the research: themean of English verbs score of experiment class are 53,84 and the mean of Englishverbs score of control class are 74,80 There is a difference in English verbs scorebetween students taught using cartoon film and those taught using non-cartoon film.It is showed by the mean of experiment class is higher than control class (74, 80>66,34). On the other hand, the test of hypothesis using t-test formula shows thevalue of the t-test is higher than the value of the t-table. The value of t-test is 2,025while the value of t-table on α = 5%. The t-test score was higher than the t-table(5,05>2,00). The hypothesis is accepted. Based on the result of this study, it isexpected to be good information for many teachers especially English teachers inteaching English verbs. So that, it can enhance students who master English well.
