THE EFFECTIVENESS OF PERSONAL PHOTOGRAPH IN TEACHING WRITING DESCRIPTIVE TEXT AT THE TENTH GRADE OF SMK TUNAS PELITA BINJAI

Abstract

The main objective of this study is to find out the effectiveness of students abilityin writing descriptive text taught using Personal Photograph. This research was conductedat SMK Tunas Pelita Binjai. In this research, the population is the tenth grade students. Thenumbers of population were 125 students. Quasi-experimental method was applied in thisresearch with two group pretest and post-test design. The instrument used to collect datawas writing test. The result of the research showed that the tenth grade students of SMKTunas Pelita Binjai had “very poor” score on pre-test with the mean score 46.6. After givingtreatment the students got improvement, the students got “good” score with the mean score84.25. The result of the data analysis indicated that there was a significant effect in thestudents writing ability after using Personal Photograph. It was proved by the result of thestatistical analysis of the level significance P = 0.05 with degree of freedom (df) = 38indicated that the t-test values of the students writing (4.11) was higher than t-table value(2.46). Based on the result analysis, the researcher then concludes that using PersonalPhotograph was effective to improve the students writing descriptive text at the tenth gradestudents of SMK Tunas Pelita Binjai.
