ANALYSIS OF CONVERSATIONAL IMPLICATURE OF TEACHER AND STUDENTS IN LEARNING ENGLISH OF THE TWELFTH- GRADE STUDENTS AT SMK BINTANG LANGKAT

Abstract

The research aims to find out the most used of conversational implicature form by teacher andstudents in learning English at SMK Bintang Langkat, where there are two categoriesconversational implicature based on Grice’s theory namely generalized conversational implicatureand particularized conversational implicature. The subject of this research was the English teacherand the twelfth-grade students at SMK Bintang Langkat. This research was qualitative researchand used documentation and interviews as collecting the data. The researcher found the most usedof conversational implicature form by teacher and students in learning English was generalizedconversational implicature with the percentage of frequency of 100%. The reasons of the Englishteacher used generalized conversational implicature: were explained the material and the studentsunderstood the material easily; and the reasons of the students used generalized conversationalimplicature were explained the material or assignment to the classmates.
