Abstract

  This study aims to determine the meaning and values ​​contained in the eating procession facing the Langkat Malay Custom in Bubun Village, Tanjung Pura District, Kab. Langkat. The subjects of the research were the bridal midwife (concurrently as mak dayang), Telangkai (people who rhyme), and community leaders. The researcher uses Roland Barthes' semiological analysis in the form of two orders of signification, namely denotation and connotation, and myth as the development of connotation. The results of the study found that there were 4 main elements and 10 series of events in the face-to-face meal in the Langkat Malay Traditional wedding ceremony. The four main elements are the bridal sitting, the guest sitting, namely the two families, Mak Dayang (Mak Inang) and types of food, namely staple foods such as rice and side dishes, fatty foods such as Gayam porridge, and sweet foods such as cakes, halua and agar. -so that. The ten series of events contained in the dining procession facing Malay customs are the submission of the wife to her husband by means of the wife kissing her husband's right hand while looking down, pulling the flowers of each favorite color, pulling the flowers requested by the host, fighting over the flowers one by one with the right hand. and kept in the left hand, Looking for chicken in rice, fetching food for the husband, bribes between the two Bride and groom, choosing a dish that each bride likes, drinking with arms crossed, toasting the in-laws. The whole series of face-to-face meals is to teach the wife how to serve her husband to eat, know the character of the partner, teach how to respect the in-laws, then teach how to live a proper household life according to customary law and Islamic law.
